| difficult to get my head around the idea that a nominally restricted airfilter will not affect gas mileage. I still have that visual of sucking air through a pinched staw; which in my mind translates to the engine straining to breath and affecting mileage. However, after thinking about the function of the MAF, and knowing that fuel is added downstream; then things began to make sense. AliaZ used the analogy of an air filter acting like a throttle plate performing the airflow same function. For myself that was the key to understanding all of this. Yes total power will be reduced. And the filter could become so clogged it strangles the engine. However, in between these two situations, it has very little affect on mileage.
